I am fascinated by links between music, drawing and ceramics. Experiences in these fields are at the heart of my ideas in clay. Light and shadow, rhythm and flow pervade the work, giving a sense of movement within positive and negative space. Instrumental music, plant growth and coastal seascape are important sources of inspiration.

Folded Form Series: My translucent forms are handbuilt using porcelain and bone china clays. Thinly rolled sheets of clay are folded, scrolled, assembled and fired to 1260°C. Sizes range in from 5cms to 38cms in height. In conjunction with colourful coiled stoneware vessels, these can been shown together one inside the other or individually.

Wall Piece Series: Thinly rolled sheets of clay are impressed to resemble watercolour paper and are printed with ceramic pigment using my drawings of shells, and sea life, and often text from selected poets. These have sweeping brush strokes of slip or glaze and are fired to 1260°C in an electric kiln.

Shell and Rock Form Series: Reminiscent of rock pools these forms range in size from tiny porcelain sea urchins to large coiled porcelain shells. These nestle on carved and impressed rock forms; embedded feldspar crystals create a glacial glaze.

Since completing the Professional Development Diploma in Fine Art Ceramics in July 2004, I have been working in Iliffe Yard, London, developing and marketing my work in this country and abroad.
