The theme of animals has been a constant one in my work, and in the last few years has shifted from wild to domestic ones. As well as choosing to make animals for their character and posture, such as the series Fat Cats and Dogs in a High Wind, I am often commissioned to make a "Pet Portrait" of a much loved dog, and occasionally a cat.
Shoes have offered alot of inspiration in the past, for their sculptural and fantasy qualities, and I like to return to this subject from time to time.
The oversized fruit and vegetables are a more recent departure in my work, which came about from a desire to experiment with burnishing and smoke firing.
I mostly work with White St.Thomas paperclay and porcelain paperclay, using slips, oxides, underglazes, glazes, ceramic transfers, "found" ironmongery or high temperature firing wire, depending on the piece of work.
