We’re delighted to working with One Paved Court for our latest selected exhibition. Our makers Desa Philippi, Camilla Webb Carter and Bridget Macklin were chosen by the gallery’s team for their fine art conceptual approach to the monochrome theme through the medium of clay.

Desa’s wall sculptures are inspired by the ever-changing play of light and reflections of graffiti on Regent’s Canal in London. They are assembled from individual porcelain elements, each thrown on the potter’s wheel and altered.

Camilla has created modular slip-cast wall installations comprised of three-dimensional ceramic shapes inspired by her studies of geometric patterns and optical illusions. Camilla aims to portray an impression of depth, perspective and contrast. The fluidity in her marbled slip-cast surfaces form an appealing juxtaposition to the straight angular geometric shapes.

Bridget has made work using clays found in the local area: mud from the Thames at Chiswick, Richmond and Battersea; clay that she was given from Richmond Park; material from a building site in Thames Ditton. Only the minerals within the found material colour the porcelain; images on the interior of her vessels tells a little more of the story. By incorporating drawings, maps and hand-written notes she is able to hint at a place or time of significance.
