| Demonstration Day with Joanna Howells Joanna Howells concentrates on form and texture, aiming to make pieces which are simple yet have a softness and a sculptural quality. She throws in porcelain, using its smoothness to create subtle textures. This she achieves by applying the clay body slip to the thrown pieces and drawing into it with a variety of tools. Many of her pieces are altered by stretching or impressing. Recently she has started working at the edges of bowls during the throwing process, giving a soft weathered effect. |
