Announcing London Potters Annual Makers Award 2024

As part of LP’s commitment to Education and Training, we are pleased to announce the 2024 Annual Makers Award details.

The award is open to Members of London Potters and applicants must be a member by the date of the application submission. The deadline for applications will be 31^st August 2024.

Two categories of award will be open for application this year:

1. Emerging maker: within the first three years after graduation or within three years from the start of trading/ selling
2. Established maker: more than three years after graduation or has been selling/working for more than three years

A total of two winners – one for each category above – will be selected by a panel of judges.

The prize for each winner

• Free Membership of LP for 1 year
• Cash Award of £1000
• Certificate of achievement
• One mentoring session to be provided by a sponsor, industry expert or appropriate ceramics professional
• A feature in a ‘Makers Focus’ article of one issue of the LP Magazine

Requirements from Winners

• Winners must be available to attend the 2024 AGM on the 12^th October in the Museum of the Home to collect the award in person or online.
• Winners are also asked to attend the 2025 AGM and make a 5 minute presentation on their progress since receiving the award.

Judging Panel

The judging panel are: Ali Tomlin, Dan Goode, Duncan Hooson, Lindy Barletta and Fay De Winter. The judges’ decisions are final and no individual feedback will be provided.

Judging Criteria

The criteria applied by the judges are:

1. Intent for the award: Clarity of purpose and the level of benefit to the applicant and others
2. Aesthetics: Design suitability, proportions and originality
3. Quality: The quality of the work

** As we are all volunteers, please note that application requests will be answered asap. You should expect a response at the latest within 7 days  **

For information, the application will require you to provide:

• Which award category you wish to apply for
• A short CV including your background to becoming a ceramicist – maximum one side of A4
• A statement (no more than 300 words) setting out the purpose for the award (e.g. equipment, show, materials, a workshop/course) and how the award will benefit you or others
• A selection of no more than 6 digital images of current work. The images must be a high resolution (300 dpi) with a maximum file size of 4MB per image
