2024 Annual Makers Award

Announcing London Potters Annual Makers Award 2024: As part of LP’s commitment to Education and Training, we are pleased to announce the 2024 Annual Makers Award details. The award is open to Members of London Potters and applicants must be a member by the date of the application submission. The deadline for applications will be 31st August 2024. 

Product Photography & Styling from Home – Yeshen Venema

This is a course delivered virtually over two sessions. Session one will be instructional and lecture based. In the time between the two sessions, Yeshen will offer you a challenge to shoot your own work. During session two you will be encouraged to share your photos and discuss/receive constructive feedback from Yeshen.

Join the London Potters members social on the afternoon of the 13th July on a roof terrace in a central London location for networking. You can bring a piece of your work for discussion if you want to and simply enjoy spending time with the pottery tribe!

Linda Bloomfield: Glaze Material & Making Workshop

This workshop is the sought after two day glaze workshop by Linda Bloomfield. There are two elements of this workshop: (i) glaze materials lecture and (ii) practical glaze making and discussion. On day 1, Linda will demonstrate glaze making, after which you will be mixing your chosen glazes and then glazing your test tiles.

2024 Members Picnic with Kate Malone MBE

Our honorary ambassador Kate Malone MBE is inviting 30 London Potters members to have a picnic at Kent farmhouse to on the 17th August. During the picnic, Kate would like attendees to take part in a critical analysis of work with each other. This is intended to be helpful for our own development from being open to listen to other’s perspectives on our work.

Mayco brush on glazing with Todd Hickerson

Join Mayco’s Todd Hickerson for a hands-on ceramic glaze demonstration on the 15th September.

Todd will be showing off Mayco’s newest Stoneware glazes and Engobes, highlighting performance characteristics, tips for use, and popular glaze combinations in cone 6 and cone 10 firing temperatures.

Woodfiring @Oxford Kilns with Dr Robin Wilson

London Potters are organising a unique opportunity to learn how to fire your own work in an anagama style wood kiln at the Oxford University Kilns, under the instruction of researcher and expert kiln-firer Dr Robin Wilson. Twelve London Potters members will make up the firing team and will learn to load, and fire the kiln over five days 18th – 22nd September (residential), and unload the kiln a week later on the 29th September.

Visit the Oxford Kilns for the London Potters woodfiring kiln opening.

You will see the firing team open the kiln and bring the pots out. You will hear about the Oxford Kilns site from Dr Robin Wilson and the London Potters firing team will share information on their experience, examine the results and learnings.

Ikebana Exhibition - Collaboration between London Potters and Sogetsu School of Ikebana London Branch (SSILB)

After the successful collaboration last year, we are pleased  to announce the second collaboration event with SSILB.
Fifteen London Potters members will have an opportunity to pair up with a SSILB member to explore and make a container for an arrangement during August/September and then exhibit their arrangement on the 19th October 2024.

Ikebana Exhibition – Visit the Exhibition – Free & Open to All

This is the Sogetsu School of Ikebana London Branch's annual exhibition which is open to the public. All London Potters members and non members are welcome to visit the exhibition and learn about the art of Sogetsu Ikebana, see how London Potters members vessels are used as part of the display.

This year, our honorary President Rich Miller will also be taking part as an exhibitor in collaboration with a SSILB member.

This year the London Potters Annual Members Exhibition will showcase work from 120 of our members. The exhibition will take place at the Morley Gallery,  61 Westminster Bridge Road, London, SE1 7HT. This ticket is for the Private View which will take place on Wednesday 27th November 2024,  6pm – 8pm. Tickets are free to members.
