Exhibition: Gasping for Air by Jo Pearl | 27th Oct – 24th Nov | Earthworks Rainham | Essex

Upcoming exhibition and event Gasping for Air 27th Oct – 24th Nov 2023 | Earthworks Rainham | Essex

Gasping for Air by our London Potters’ Member Jo Pearl is a body of work combining clay stop-frame animation and ceramics explores what it looks and feels like to struggle for breath in air pollution. This work, first exhibited at Ceramic Art London 2022, is being remounted in conjunction with Havering Changing and local activists Clear the Air Rainham. In response to the poor air quality in the area due to heavy traffic and, downwind of the Dagenham industrial zone, local activists parents have worked to stage this exhibition and public engagement event to try and encourage a conversation about how to improve local air quality. Supported by Havering Changing, an Arts Council funded initiative that brings the arts to this area of Essex. Gasping for Air will be exhibited at the Royals Rainham Community Centre, with an additional opening night free public engagement event using clay to co-make with participants and frame a conversation about how to improve the air quality in the area.
