Pieces of Woman

The first mother and daughter art exhibition at the RePUBlic Gallery, Blyth, is an amazing opportunity for all ages to experience for free from16th February to the 15th March.

Local born glass artist Helen Grierson will be showing her most powerful and personal work alongside the rich and moving ceramic work of her daughter Almudena Rocca in “Pieces of Woman”, an exhibition that will really move all who see it.

After watching the decline and death of her mother, Helen was inspired to produce a body of work around ageing and women. Helen says “I wanted, to reflect back to women how beautiful, wise, strong and resilient we are as we age. Western society highlights all the flaws to sell women creams, pills and fitness regimes. What I want to show is how powerful we are and to suggest we can make ageing aspirational”.

Almudena has created some exceptional clay work that tells the story of the intergenerational relationship’s women have with one another, themselves and nature.

If you want to have a go yourself, you can learn from both Helen and Almudena with glass and clay workshops running throughout the month. And amongst the art there will be a magical poetry evening with spoken word icon, Cathi Rae and local poets, Amy Langdown and Lizzie Lovejoy. This is then followed by a writing workshop called, “Finding ways to tell our ageing story” run by Cathi Rae that challenge ageist notions of what older women should be or look like”.

Come join us on a journey of wonderful self-discovery and meeting generous and supportive women.  To find out more and book workshops  you can go to www.helengrierson.co.uk
