Path and Inspiration
For over 25 years I have had a fascination for clay and its properties which has led to a career as a ceramic artist and art teacher. This passion has also been shared by running many clay workshops in a wide variety of settings. I initially embraced throwing but then the texture, mark making and sculptural possibilities drew me into hand building, a slower method which was less stressful. However my future challenges are to create more sculptural work and revisit throwing with stoneware.Process and Practice
Texture, surface and the natural world is key to my work and complimented by vibrant colour glazes and some pastel glazes. I am also intrigued how clay a hard material, can mimic soft drapery as inspired by textiles and lace reflected in my wall mounted shallow relief studies of lace drapery. I constantly challenge my creativity resulting from commissions and a body of unique work including jewellery, shallow relief work, bowls and small vessels, all to be found on my online web shop.
