Path and Inspiration
I am a geology graduate who has spent nearly 20 years in education, mainly as a maths teacher. Now retired, I have embraced fully my passion for clay and glazes. My ceramic work is contemporary with an emphasis on form, texture and colour. Much of my inspiration is drawn from the turbulence of the geological world coupled with the order and balance of geometry. I make unique functional and sculptural pieces that I hope will not only delight but that will also intrigue and be thought provoking.Process and Practice
I use a variety of stoneware and porcelain clays in my work. Most of my pieces are thrown and/or hand built. I also use different firing techniques from electric and gas kilns to raku and pit firing. I like to experiment with a variety of different glazes and finishes with a focus on sleek lines and colour juxtaposition.
