Path and Inspiration
Anna studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and the Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste, Munich; after graduating working freelance as an artist before embarking on the City Lit Contemporary Ceramics Diploma in 2013. A central theme in Anna's work is the rhythm of the natural world and its action on our man-made surroundings.
Her sculptures are characterised by their monumentality and painterly surfaces. Anna is interested in the narrative of clay artefacts and the notion of the unknown craftsman.Process and Practice
I am an artist ceramicist based in London. Influenced by how the natural and man-made environments co-exist and weave together, in my sculptures I hope people find a sense of calm.It starts with a drawing or an image in my mind, then building with coils, slabs or carving the clay, I create vessels by altering, trimming and mending as I go. It’s an instinctive way of working – fingerprints and incidental marks may sometimes remain in the finished works of art.
