Path and Inspiration
My inspiration is many and varied. Originally from the Pacific Northwest of USA, I was first influenced by the art of the native tribes and the natural rocks of the area--agates and obsidian. I discovered ceramics late in life (in 2010) and miraculously came across Jose Mariscal of Spain, Ted Secombe of Australia and John Tilton of Florida, undoubtedly three of the world's best crystalline artists. I've been obsessed with crystalline from the very start.Process and Practice
My specialty is the development and use of oxidation and reduction crystalline glazes. My work ranges from water features & lamps to usable art in the form of mugs, bowls, plates. I'm enthralled with the process of growing crystals in my kiln and have learned to influence their shapes, halos and growth rings. I'm one of the few people in the world who perform clean electric reduction. I'm now teaching this advanced process, as well as introductory crystalline workshops.
