Path and Inspiration
I was first introduced to porcelain while studying at Clay College. I have since found that this material is ideally suited to the refined shapes that I am looking to create. In the development of my designs, I aim to balance precision of form with fluidity in the surface decoration. I am particularly drawn to European ceramics of the early to mid-20th century and am hoping that my pieces convey my love for design and attention to detail.Process and Practice
I make wheel-thrown pots in porcelain which after the first firing becomes the perfect canvas for my loosely drawn decoration. Most of my pieces are decorated with ceramic pencil and underglaze colours and all work is then glazed with a glossy transparent glaze and high-fired in an electric kiln.
