Path and Inspiration
My work is often inspired by my mudlarking on the foreshore of the River Thames. The river offers up glimpses of past lives and many of the artefacts I discover are added to my pieces. I love the dichotomy of the quiet river bank and the very busy London surrounding it. It is a reflective, meditative place reminding me that we are transient beings with many untold stories. The smoke firing process adds its own unique depth of colour and tone.Process and Practice
My pieces are highly burnished and smoke fired using in an oil drum. I often write on my work with a reference to my mudlarking on the Thames. Words are resisted, retained or removed during the firing which I hope adds a sense of mystery to the pieces - much like the hidden story of the artefacts I discover.
