Path and Inspiration
I started my ceramics journey in handbuilding, taking adult education classes. I thoroughly enjoyed learning and exploring this artistic discipline, particularly using different clays, slips and glazes. I progressed to wheel throwing, which has now become my preferred method of making. It soon began to feel that a weekly class was not enough to develop my passion for ceramics, so after finding a local studio to join, I am now able to dedicate more time to my art and hone my skills.Process and Practice
The majority of my work is wheel thrown, working primarily in stoneware clays. I enjoy using coloured glazes that highlight the natural beauty of the clay bodies. My work is mostly electric fired but I also enjoy taking part in raku firings and love creating more abstract and sculptural pieces for these alternative firings.
I hope that even though most of my work is functional in form, it also performs in a decorative capacity, bringing interest and joy to the owner.
