Path and Inspiration
A friend once suggested I have a go at pottery and I loved it from the first class. I went on first to share a studio and now I am lucky to have my own studio. I've enjoyed several pottery tours in China and have had the chance to visit a range of potters from simple village potters to master craftsmen and women. The love of ceramics everywhere was apparent and it was inspiring to see the variety of work from the traditional to the very innovative and individual.Process and Practice
I mainly use slab with a very forgiving white stoneware clay which allows me to put a certain amount of stress on pieces without subsequent cracking. I enjoy trying out different shapes and, although my work is sometimes 'quirky', it's mostly still functional. Recently I have been seeing the effects I can create when using a mix of black and white clays either marbled, or by just haphazardly adding one to the other.
