Path and Inspiration
Donice is strongly influenced by her travels in Asia and Africa. In fact it was in Japan, many years ago, that she first became interested in Ceramics. Ancient art, from all cultures arouses a reservoir of ideas from within her which can develop into any imaginable creation. She recently made a trip to Greenland and was fascinated by their ancient artefacts especially the Tupilak sculptures which are said to ward off evil.Process and Practice
She mainly hand builds with slabs in stoneware clay. Sometimes she uses texture using anything to hand and at other times she uses the clay as a canvas to paint with underglazes. She has recently been experimenting with Terra Sigillata which she uses in her monochromatic geometric designs.
