Path and Inspiration
Inspired by Karen Tooth at adult education classes which ended due to Covid. In May 2021 I fired up my own electric kiln in my shed.
Process and Practice
I use mostly porcelain and flax porcelain paper clay. Using my own plaster moulds, I press pieces of clay into or onto them to form a smooth outer or inner surface and a delicately lined surface where the pieces of clay merge. I add extruded 'spaghetti' of various shapes or make decorative impressions using feathers, shell, coral or anything else that comes to hand. I use stains and occasional transparent glaze to achieve a watercolour effect. I have recently begun slip casting.
