Path and Inspiration
After studying art and ceramics at O level in the late 70’s I moved way from art until early 2000. My training has been mainly through adult Ed in SE London and my own exploration and research.
My work reflects my interest in natural forms, shapes and textures, the landscape we live in both urban and countryside influence my work. The visual and tactile nature of my work is essential to me speaking of pebbles on a beach, rocks on a river bed, ancient stones, old places.Process and Practice
Hand built forms using slabs, coiling and my own moulds. Built slowly over a number of weeks. I colour my own clay or mix clays together to change the basic colour of the clay. I use layers of different slips to create texture and colour variety on many of my pieces as well as various home made mark making tools to create different textures. With the need to use less electricity, I am currently exploring how much texture and layers I can apply before any firing. This is ongoing experimentation.
