Path and Inspiration
Finding clay late in my artistic career has been a gift as I now have the headspace to reflect and explore. I approach clay with a playfulness which taps into that instant childlike spontaneity where imagination is free to roam. While approaching functional ware with a sense of creative exploration, I have also picked up on my interest in the human form.Process and Practice
I hand build with coloured stoneware clays using a combination of slab, pinched and coiled clay.
The creative process behind my sculpture is so different to that of my functional ceramics, where I am working to a particular aesthetic or theme.
The figures are a study of lived experiences. Usually created after finishing a run of tableware, they are my down time. I play with a wide range of stimulus but I seem to be drawn to the uncanny and quirky nature of things.
