Path and Inspiration
I was introduced to clay from an early age by my father who sculpted in clay.
I studied 3D Design: Ceramics at Bath Academy of Art. I had a studio in London before going into primary teaching for many years. I have a studio at home in Chichester, West Sussex where the beautiful coastal landscape is a source of inspiration for the surface decoration and colours in my work.Process and Practice
Each piece is thrown as thinly as possible, in porcelain on the wheel, then turned when leather-hard to refine the form. Smooth, gentle surfaces, finished in calm coloured glazes are the focus of my work. Recently, discovering ‘chattering’ by accident, I now use this technique to create surface pattern and texture that is integral to the form. I make my own glazes and carry out multiple tests to achieve the right colours that work best with the surface decoration.
