Path and Inspiration

I work from my garden studio in Bookham, Surrey. After studying Graphic design at Kingston University and pursuing a career in Television Graphics I decided on a career change to teach adults with learning disabilities a range of creative arts, one of them being pottery. This reawakened my love of this medium. I use mainly stoneware clay and coloured slips to create bold marks using a variety of tools.

Process and Practice

I have been working mainly with stoneware clay, practicing my throwing technique and using a limited number of glazes due to space restrictions and using an electric kiln. In my teaching we have experimented with pinch pots, plaster moulds and slab building. We have used items from nature to create impressions, underglazes, oxides to create decoration and a transparent glaze. My students have exhibited in 3 galleries sold items in our shop and through a local gallery.
