Path and Inspiration
As a ceramic practitioner, Jess works from her South East London studio to produce one off sculptures and decorative pieces. Having spent part of her childhood growing up alongside the New Forest's Coastal Path, she takes inspiration from microscopic forms occurring within nature; in particular sea coral and Radiolaria. Using a variety of tools and methods, she replicates these textures onto the surface of her clay forms.Process and Practice
Each piece Jess makes combines a variety of techniques and methods; from slip casting the body of a form to throwing delicate elements off the hump. The final stage is carefully applying her intricate, marine inspired design to the clay surface, which she leaves unglazed. It is her intention to be explorative within her practice; continuing to learn and experiment with new processes and responding to each project with the tools that feel appropriate.
