Path and Inspiration
Having graduated from Camberwell College in 2000 I have found my love of throwing clay. It must have texture of some kind. Some of my work will have texture applied during the throwing process, others by use of glazes.
I am drawn to the juxtaposition of a delicate looking pot which is tactile and yet imperfect in its surface.Process and Practice
I can use the perfection of porcelain or the grogged, gritty texture of raku and stoneware clay to achieve the desired effect of my pieces. I use blow torches and 'hot air guns' during the throwing so I can achieve the form I am looking for. I use an electric kiln and based upon the piece and glaze, I fire from 1080 to 1280 degrees. Each piece dictates the firing. Some pieces go through only two firings, others may have three or four firings, Again, the piece will dictate what is required.
