Path and Inspiration
In the spirit of ceramic history, these pots tell stories of the here and now, such as how it feels to run or dance or stretch. They are in living spaces, growing plants or becoming a containing part of a room. They are telling stories like Attic ware or Folk Art. They are made with joy, touch and feeling like African coil pots. The drawings on the pots come from my practice of drawing from an active life and consciousness. Using my sketches as a starting point, I draw freely onto the vessels.Process and Practice
Working from my studio in my former garage. I hand build my pots using slabs and coils. I have a slab roller, a kiln, a good bench and shelves. Most of the year my garage doors are wide open which is lovely and helps with the drying process as it is South facing. I am developing my practise, currently I hand-build with slabs, coils and pinch pots and some press moulding. I draw with mainly sgraffito but also slip trailing and painting. I fire to stoneware.
