Path and Inspiration
After a career in landscape architecture I found a new direction and joy in working with clay. Starting with evening classes I gradually became immersed in ceramics gaining a HND in Ceramics at Morley College in 2020. My fascination with the natural world and the urban environment is expressed through my vessels and sculptural pieces. I now work in a studio at Thames-side Studios in south east London finding the community of craftspeople and the close presence of the river inspiring.Process and Practice
My current work takes the form of groups of slab-built vessels inspired by the vivid green leaves of early spring. The clay slabs are inscribed with grids and manipulated to create contrasting textures on the different sides of the clay just as leaves show a subtle difference in form, colour and texture on their tops and undersides. The chrome green glaze gives consistency of colour but highlights the different textures in the pieces.
