Path and Inspiration
I make collections of pieces and view them as families. I am interested in the similarities such as shape, clay or decoration within these families whilst at the same time each piece has it's own unique individuality - rather like us! Line has a strong place in my work through carving, drawn lines and inlay work. I enjoy drawing and will experiment and explore with line bringing into my ceramic work.Process and Practice
My work is largely thrown forms. The vessels I make have clean lines and timeless shapes. I develop each vessel, or group, using slips, glazes and oxides to decorate along with techniques such as carving or sgraffito. I often repeat a form in a variety of sizes to create families. When throwing I work with stoneware and porcelain, and for hand building I flavor earthenware clays.
