Path and Inspiration
Jilly learnt traditional studio pottery at school in the 70's and after her science degree, joined a small studio pottery in Scotland where she threw production stoneware and hand-built slab pots in both salt glaze reduction and raku kilns.
She has taught for over 35 years, been a Shiatsu practitioner, and dyslexia specialist. In 2018 she set up Vessel Ceramics and founded an open access studio on Dartmoor in 2023.Process and Practice
I produce fine, mostly thrown porcelain vessels, contrasting textures of matte, and white, unglazed clay against glazed surfaces. I use renewable electric oxidation firing.Circular ‘windows’ are revealed either as holes, naked clay or surface glaze.
Some of my work displays threaded lengths of looped clay through holes in vessel walls and handles can be unexpectedly attached inside vessels.‘I have always felt that ceramics hold the touch and soul of the maker for others to forever feel.
