Path and Inspiration
From my first introduction to clay I have been totally captivated by the endless challenges and possibilities this medium offers. After a brief spell living overseas, where I had the time to practice my craft and learn the workings of a ceramic studio, I said goodbye to my career in the NHS and set up JoJo Ceramics. Since then I've been happily working full time from my garden studio. Nestled in the Surrey countryside, immersed in and connected to nature, from which I draw huge inspiration.Process and Practice
I design and create both functional and purely decorative, contemporary porcelain ceramics using a combination of wheel thrown, casting and handbuiling techniques.
Often described as feminine, the common theme that links my work is their sense of calm. Consciously restrained in both form and decoration making a statement but quietly. Often allowing the beauty of the raw clay to take centre stage, allowing and encouraging a real physical connection to the material and the piece.
