Path and Inspiration
I started a foundation degree course in Art and Design in 2016 and fell in love with clay and ceramics. I carried on and completed my degree in 2020 as a mature student, gaining a BA (Hons) Art and Design.
Most of my inspiration comes from the landscapes and coastal areas of Cornwall, where I was born and live now. I also lived abroad for 17 years in various countries, so a little of the inspiration from Asia and Africa has crept into my design work recently.Process and Practice
I use a wheel-thrown and hand-built approach with stoneware clays, and sometimes use a combination of both, to enable me to make a more organic tactile form. The pieces are then fired in an electric kiln and some are glazed up to 4 times to gain the rugged effects on any work that has a lava glaze application.
