Path and Inspiration
Though I was brought up in Australia and have travelled or lived abroad quite a bit, I’ve been a Londoner for about 20 years now. I had dipped in and out of pottery for many years but the pandemic made me reassess my priorities and ceramics has become a part-time passion. I still get inspiration from the colours and textures of the natural world but my love of botany and landscapes has had to adapt to a more urban setting.Process and Practice
I make a range of hand built and wheel thrown, mostly functional ceramics inspired by the textures and colours of the seasonal urban and natural environment. Using stoneware clays, I favour materials with a bit of personality: speckled and grogged or coloured for example. I also like to leave some areas on my pieces unglazed to highlight the natural beauty of the clay. Texture is a feature of my work and I use foraged plants, seedpods, shells, stones and other materials to create it.
