Path and Inspiration
I love working with my hands and took a ceramics degree soon after leaving school. I’ve been making, mending, drawing, teaching, playing with clay and studying and working with human form ever since. I have a spinal condition which requires regular physiotherapy and makes me very conscious of posture.
Having children altered my focus, with character and narrative overtaking my interest in posture. It also affected the work by changing when and where and for how long I was able to creatively playProcess and Practice
My work is hand-built with off-white stoneware and decorated using applied patches of clay and a range of slips, stains, underglazes and brush-on glazes.
The character of the vessel (or sculpture), the characteristics of the materials and the evolving narratives between my characters keep me amused as I create. My work also makes other people smile and that makes me happy too.
