Path and Inspiration
Attended North Staffs Poly, doing a foundation course, late 1980’s . 12 years of work and family. Early 2000’s started a pottery night class, onto a degree in Fine Art specialising in ceramics. 2006 onwards I spent building my skills, doing a PGCE in secondary education Art and Design until in 2012 started selling my work. 2019 went almost full time and in 2022 started teaching at an adult education centre. Lucie Rie & Edmund De Waal have been strong influentials on my work.Process and Practice
Mainly thrown work although for the last year I have been developing my hand building techniques and combining the two methods. Working mainly in white stoneware and mid range stoneware glazes, I carve directly into the clay surface or press clay into my own designs carved into plaster panels. Texture is very important for me to achieve the glaze effects I am looking for. I’m also developing mixed media pieces for example, using wood and leather for handles.
