Path and Inspiration
I began making pots in London where I studied Ceramics at Camberwell College of Arts, graduating in 1996. Since 2000 I've lived in Farnham in Surrey where I work from my garden studio, with inspiration for my work coming from many areas: the colours in the landscape, fruit, flowers, the seashore, and the still-life paintings of Giorgio Morandi: I enjoy placing my vessels in 'family' groups, where the colour and form of each piece is in balance with its companions.Process and Practice
My vases, jugs and bowls are thrown on the wheel from white earthenware clay and decorated with a smooth, semi-matt glaze of my own invention, to which I add oxides and stains to obtain a wide spectrum of colours, some muted and subtle, some bright and vivid. My work is represented in many Galleries throughout the UK, and I take part in Open Studios, artist's residencies and exhibitions. I welcome commissions and enjoy creating sculptural groups for clients, often inspired by paintings.
