Path and Inspiration
My path in ceramics began as a child, inspired by my grandmother’s pottery and I went on to study Ceramics to Degree level at Falmouth University, Cornwall in the 1990s.
I also had a very inspiring gap year in Japan, where I learnt to throw on the pottery wheel.
For 16yrs I taught Art & Design at secondary school and I now teach part-time Studio Pottery in FE college, Adult Ed.
My main source of inspiration is a love of nature and the wild.Process and Practice
I use a local Cornish stoneware clay to sculpt my animals and nature inspired sculptural forms. I also throw functional wares, from teapots to bottle vases.
All are highly decorated with underglaze illustrations that tell a story, then fired to stoneware temp and are finished with a third firing of gold lustre to symbolise the magic all around us.
All with a subtle theme of the importance of preserving our wildlife and their environments.
