Path and Inspiration
This collection of new work which is very different from my usual was inspired by a trip to the British museum. I was drawn to the classical beauty of Roman and Greek pottery, its feminine curved shapes and outlines. I have tried to replicate these themes for this collection. I've also added abstract painted designs using slips and underglazes colours, for a more contemporary feel.Process and Practice
All my work is made using slab building techniques. I have always preferred handbuilding, even though it can be very time consuming, you are not restricted in your design by shapes. I design on paper and then use these paper templates to cut out into the clay. I then hand mold the flat clay towards the shapes I need, letting them dry to leather hard before placing the two halves together and attaching them with clay slip.
