Path and Inspiration
I originally studied Fine Art painting but began to investigate the possibilities of clay around 4 years ago. As a keen swimmer and freediver, the marine environment is a prominent source of inspiration for my ceramic work. Whilst I initially made very literal pieces, (things such as octopus, jellyfish and shells), my work has gradually evolved to reference soft coral forms and the movement and flow of ocean currents around reef structures.Process and Practice
My pieces are handbuilt and press moulded. I particularly enjoy working with porcelain as its plasticity when handling readily lends itself to creating flowing and undulating forms that suggest a sense of movement. I have now started to experiment with creating composite pieces and incorporating glass into my work for the glaze firing.
