Path and Inspiration
BA (Hons) in Fine Art at the University for the Creative Arts.Making art, and especially using clay brings me right into the present moment. I am humbled by the intricacy and beauty of nature. Horrified by the struggle of everything to survive and grow. In awe of how it all fits together. Treading lightly on this earth, is part of my philosophy. Not disturbing the balance of the environment by deliberately breaking off a branch.Process and Practice
Slab building and carving (kurinuki) are my principal working methods. I use the natural surfaces of trees, plants, stones and rocks for my work. Foraging for textures from the fallen debris on the forest floor.Firing the vessels in a Raku kiln is an important part of the making process. This method produces random results that interest me. Just as no leaf is exactly the same, so not one of my vessels is a carbon copy of the other. Each is unique. Each has its own inner expression.
