Path and Inspiration
I have been a potter for 5 years now since first learning basic techniques at adult education classes taught by Faye Dewinter. Lots of practice, YouTube videos and trial & error later......
I am inspired by intimate contact with the natural world around me, whether observed on local walks in the Surrey countryside with our 2 dogs or through my other passion for scuba diving.
Also by other amazing potters eg Bernard Pallisy and the Martin Brothers.
My style and focus is ever evolvingProcess and Practice
I love to get my hands in the clay to directly communicate the beauty I see around me, through more figurative sculpture or decorative design starting with mostly thrown pieces.
I use techniques such as Sgraffito, incising and slip painting, and direct modelling by hand before bisque firing followed by oxide and glaze combinations, sometimes using hand cut stickers for multiple layering effects. At present my focus is hand sculpting creatures, plants and coral onto thrown pots, bowls & plates.
