Path and Inspiration
Ömer Öner is a Turkish ceramic artist and History graduate, keen to harmonise his knowledge of Middle Eastern art, culture and architecture with the West. Öner is inspired by found objects and their creative potential in forming new bodies of work.Process and Practice
My practice is making teapots and candle sticks out of found objects’ forms in ceramics. These objects are derived from discarded items: door handles, scrap wood, plastic, glass and metal furniture fragments. As a maker, I re-assess and re-create their value, function, and material quality. I employ clay’s historic imitation and reproduction quality to copy and multiply the found objects by repurposing and regenerating them into new functional ceramic vessels.
