Path and Inspiration
My inspiration is from nature and the intricacies of the microscopic and botanical world. I try to capture the rhythmic parts of a seed head to bring to light that not everything that is beautiful is visible to the naked eye. Texture, form and colour are used, but sometimes the luminosity of the white porcelain is enough impact. Porcelain has played a big part in my journey but I love to experiment with different stonewares too, especially when making larger work.Process and Practice
I usually build upon a cast, handbuilt or thrown shape. The shape of the vessel to be used for decoration is important. I have been using the sphere for many of my sculptures but I am now experimenting with larger thrown and coiled vessels using a grogged stoneware for stability and strength. Depending on the sculpture I like to uses underglazes, lustres and various slips and overglazes. The drying process can take several weeks depending on the weather and the clay.
