Path and Inspiration
I was first introduced to ceramics in the early 80s while doing a foundation course in Art and design. I took a degree course at Camberwell School of Art, and the path of my life became clear.
I have created and exhibited in Uk and abroad, including international ceramic symposiums.
My artwork is inspired by the human body, natural forms and textures, landscapes, seascapes, weathered and effaced surfaces, ancient ceramic and glass, and the clay itself.
My studio is in my south London garden.Process and Practice
My making techniques include throwing, stretching, tearing and reconstructing, rolling, imprinting, slamming, coiling, pinching, and modelling.
I use oxides, stains, slips and glazes, applied at various stages as washes, or partly rubbed off, to enhance clay features, textures and lines. I celebrate contrasts between inside and outside, muted and bright colours, matt and shiny surfaces, clean and torn edges.I work is experimental and intuitive.
I mostly fire to 1130°C in electric kiln.
