Path and Inspiration
Having started working with clay over 40 years ago I still enjoy the process and the excitement of opening the kiln to see what has happened. I take inspiration from what is around me, whether that is at home in Nottinghamshire or during my travels around the world. I am particularly drawn to the coast and the textures and colours of the vast oceans, rock, sand, pebbles and the constant movement of the sea.Process and Practice
Using traditional methods of slab building and coiling I enjoy the meditative slow process allowing time to consider how the finished piece will look. I also enjoy the immediacy and speed of throwing potter’s wheel and turning the bases. I often hand paint 3 glazes in an abstract manner onto each vessel and fire in an electric kiln. I exhibit and sell my pottery in the UK and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and skills with others by teaching pottery classes to adults in Nottingham.
