Path and Inspiration
Stef Hunter’s ceramics reflects ideas that are mainly drawn from the East Sussex coastline and surrounding environments, old buildings and nature. She uses a multi directional hand building approach to working with clay, sometimes involving the potter’s wheel.Process and Practice
Often painted with expressive use of slips and glazes with lots of colour, much time is spent on each piece, building in layers of history and memory within the surface and allowing form to evolve. Recent development includes exploration of Nerikomi techniques and research into inlaid porcelain whilst at the International Ceramics studio in Hungary.
The pieces are fired to very high temperatures to capture the flux and magical qualities within the heat of the kiln.
