Steph’s work responds to the contemporary Ballarat landscape, hollowed by centuries of gold extraction and forever altered both in its physical essence and cultural tapestry. These abstract, sculptural forms challenge the concept of vessel and provide substrate to tell the stories buried deep within the land. Inlaid with drawn line and decorated with layers of slips, oxides and glazes, these works reference the disrupted terrain in a contemplation of impermanence, erosion and decay.
