Path and Inspiration
Su graduated from Cardiff School of Art and Design in 1995 with a degree in ceramics, focusing on the human image. This lead to a career as a hair and make up artist for film and television, later returning to ceramics.She is inspired by the colours and textures within nature and excited about how glazes can sit and move on the geography of the pot. Her current work reflects a coherent colour palette, manoeuvring between matte, glossy and crystalline finishes.Process and Practice
Su creates stoneware vessels, using a blend of making approaches. She muses around the technique of faceting, which is her current passion; an action of slicing through firm clay, peeling back the excess to reveal the newly chiseled surface.Exploring the juxtaposition of an irregular hand carved shape with the centred qualities of thrown clay, Su combines throwing and carving, bringing together their physical charms. All of her work is glazed with personally formulated recipes.
