Path and Inspiration
The work I make now is definitely, defiantly “decorative”!
I no longer think of “decorative” as a derogatory term as I would have done when I first started making ceramics.
I think what I have come to realise with age (or “experience” as I prefer to call it), is that I no longer worry about my work being “meaningful” to others. I don’t mean that in an arrogant sense, but rather that I can enjoy letting go of that aspect and make work without that hindrance.Process and Practice
I use porcelain to make my vessel forms which I then decorate in multiple firings using a combination of slips, glazes and metals. I approach each piece as canvas upon which to create an abstract collage of texture and colour. My work is constantly changing and evolving. I still enjoy the challenge of developing new ideas.
