Path and Inspiration
I am a multi-disciplinary artist, originally training as a painter 1984-1989 to Masters level. In 2003-6 I qualified as an Art Therapist at Hertfordshire University. Art Therapy released me to work in any media. I began following unconscious processes to better understand mental health. The theme of evidencing my existence through clay was born. I joined local ceramic studios picking up clay knowledge and experience. I use clay in my fine art practice and therapeutically with others.Process and Practice
I work intuitively, following my unconscious to hand build figurative sculptures up to 45cm. I experiment with different clay bodies, I use pre mixed glazes in a painterly way, making multiple firings to create decorative expressive works that often include animals. The tribe of imaginary figures are aspects of my psyche. They are often barely viable creations carrying some essence of humanness I find reveals itself in clay.
I use plates like mandalas to draw out narratives.
