Path and Inspiration
I trained as a ceramicist in the early 80's but have been making ceramic jewellery for most of my working life. A few years ago, on the verge of giving up working with clay altogether, a twist of fate brought me back to making pots again. The pots that I now make are slab built sculptural pieces which are a playful take on classic container forms, particularly the bottle. Many of these pots have an animated almost human air about them, especially when displayed in groups.Process and Practice
Most of my work is glazed and then raku fired. Other pieces are covered with a crackle slip which after firing are brushed with an ink solution to enhance the crackle effect. Both firing techniques give unpredictable results making each piece unique.
