Path and Inspiration
My work explores rhythms; expressed using pattern and texture in the surface decoration of the vases, vessels and lidded pots I make. I find inspiration in tribal designs, prints on fabric or wall paper, art, or patterns found in nature. The process of applying the pattern has a repetitive rhythm of its own and the addition of texture on my 'Spike' series creates a tactile dimension to theses designs.Process and Practice
Pieces are primarily wheel thrown, with some slip cast pieces. I find white stoneware provides a clean canvas for the application of the patterned designs which are applied freehand by slip trailing with coloured slips or underglazes onto the surface of the vessel.
